AIANZ CEO Simon Wallace featured in NZ Herald article on Air NZ’s future and industry pressures

While political leaders debated the future of the Government’s 51% stake in the airline, the article also featured insight from AIANZ Chief Executive Simon Wallace, underscoring AIANZ’s role as a key voice for the aviation sector.

Speaking to the cost pressures confronting airlines, Simon noted that the Government has immediate tools available to help offset rising airfares. He highlighted that CAA levies and Airways NZ charges make up a significant portion of domestic ticket prices — costs that could be eased to provide short-term relief to operators struggling with fuel volatility and tightening margins. In the example of a $200 Wellington–Auckland fare, Simon explained that $15 goes to CAA levies and around $40 to airport charges, with Auckland Airport among the highest in the world.
