AIANZ was pleased to host last Wednesday a parliamentary event with the Hon James Meager, attended by around 60 aviation industry representatives.
The session focused on the escalating fuel crisis and its impact on the viability of aviation operations, with Simon Wallace, CEO of AIANZ, outlining the real and immediate pressures facing airlines, agricultural aviation, helicopter operators, tourism, and emergency services.
Minister Meager spoke to the government’s active and collaborative response, including daily monitoring of fuel impacts, development of a fair and practical fuel allocation framework, workforce initiatives, and ongoing oversight of market behaviour.
Importantly, the discussion reaffirmed that while the fuel crisis demands urgent attention, long term regulatory reform and sector resilience remain priorities, recognising aviation’s critical contribution to New Zealand’s economy and communities.
AIANZ thanks the Minister and all attendees for a constructive and solutions focused discussion at a critical time for our sector.
