The Post: New flying school launches as industry struggles to soar

The Post: Global demand for pilots is soaring, but entrenched issues have left New Zealand’s aviation industry struggling to tap into the need for training, experts say.

Airbus estimates the aviation industry will require 585,000 new pilots by 2040, while Boeing expects the global commercial aircraft fleet to double by 2042 and says 649,000 new pilots will be needed.

The upshot is large numbers of new pilots will be required, and that could generate significant income for local trainers.

Pre-Covid, international aviation students were estimated to contribute around $200 million to New Zealand’s economy annually, according to the Aviation Industry Association.
